| today was belt promotion for some of my students. i always like promotions cause it's fun to see the kids and see how you've impacted their lives. Anyways, at the end of every promotion we have this thing where the kids thank their parents for bringing them and we have the parents present their child with the new rank, and the kids always give their parents a hug after. I have a 7 year old student, a little boy. He comes from a well-off family and like most little boys, his dad is his hero. At the surface, his family seems normal. A loving mom, caring dad, and the kids are good, involved in sports and such. His parents are preparing for a divorice, and his mother has pretty much chosen us to be his postive male role models. Anyhow, when the kids are supposed to give their parents a hug, he turns to his mom and dad, half looking down, and tells them to hug each other first. They dont. His mother tries to hug him but he backs away, and he looks up at them both, and says he wants them both to hug them at the same time. With looks of reluctance, the father and mother hug their son together. This student is a favorite of mine, and seeing that ended my night. I was happy for him that he was able to have both of his parents embrace him as a family once again. aiite.. im out. gotta do this again tomrrow. |
